On December 7th, the advanced theater class competed in the District 12 Jr. Thespian competition at American Heritage in Plantation.
The festival brought schools from all around the district including Tequesta Trace Middle, Parkway Middle School of the Performing Arts, and over 20 others. The festival let students present performance and technical categories. Some of the performance categories were solo music, monologue, large group, and small group. Some of the technical categories were set design, scene writing, makeup design and, costume design. This festival is a great way to bring the schools together even though it’s a competition.
FCMS theater received the following awards:
“My experience was out of this world. I was so proud of myself and the rest of the troupe for our dedication these past few months. It had truly paid off.” said Barbra Bomfim, the 8-grade thespian troupe president.
“It was really fun, and such an honor. I can’t believe my eyes when I saw other people perform. It was a great first chance and I can’t wait to go back next year!” said Martin Florez, the 7-grade critics choice winner for his solo music.
“Performing at the Thespian Festival this year was definitely nerve-wracking but also really exciting. Our troupe, was very successful this year and as an 8th grader I couldn’t have more faith in the 7 graders that we are handing the troupe off to next year.” said Katie Wulf, an eighth-grader who received an honorable mention for her set design from the musical “Funny Girl”.
